Manfred Grohmann studied civil engineering at TU Darmstadt. Since then, he has been motivated by a passion for good architecture and innovative constructions, just like his partner Klaus Bollinger. They founded Bollinger+Grohmann in 1983.
The company, headquartered in Frankfurt am Main, now has over 400 employees at 18 branches. The two founders placed responsibility and tasks in the hands of their current partners early and transformed the company into a holding company in 2010. Manfred Grohmann is now chairman of the supervisory board.
In addition to his successful work as a structural engineer, it was also important to Manfred Grohmann to impart his knowledge in teaching, especially in interdisciplinary teaching. He was a Professor of Structural Design at the Department of Architecture at Kassel University from 1996-2019. In addition to guest professorships at the Städelschule Frankfurt and the ESA - École Spéciale d'Architecture in Paris, he was an Honorary Professor at the University of Melbourne and the University of Nottingham between 2015-2016.
Manfred Grohmann has been active in the Executive Council of the International Association for Shell and Spatial Structures (IASS) since 2010. In 2019, he was awarded the Torroja Medal for his outstanding achievements as a structural engineer who has played a major role in shaping innovative and contemporary design and construction internationally.
