Yesterday, after almost four years of extensive renovation, the Wien Museum celebrates its grand reopening. Designed by Oswald Haerdtl and opened in 1959, the new Wien Museum now includes the addition of a floating double-story roof.
The special feature of the museum is its structural division into the 'existing' and the 'new' buildings, which are architecturally linked. The large roof cantilever is achieved by two-storey steel trusses and a ring-shaped, point-supported steel truss anchored in the shell of the 4th floor.
