The international competition "Reinventing Cities" is organised by C40 (Cities Climate Leadership Group). Around the world, major cities are playing a crucial role in achieving the Paris Agreement's greenhouse gas emission targets. Oslo and 14 other cities participated in the competition. The winning proposal at Furuset in Oslo is based on energy-positive buildings with "BREEAM Outstanding" requirements.
The buildings will have solar panels on both the roof and the facade, and the building shape is adapted to the solar conditions to maximise the energy production and the effect of the solar cells. Heating is via a high-efficiency CO2 heat pump or the local microgrid. The construction is based on load-bearing wall discs and slabs, and is made with sustainable materials such as solid wood or low-carbon concrete. The exterior walls are made of an innovative wall system with wood fibre insulation, which the project will be a pilot project for.
