Sustainable Design (Schematic Design Phase) in collaboration with Ramboll |
Marassi Al Bahrain is a highly distinguished urban project, which combines a cohesive mix of residential and commercial properties, aimed at creating a sustainable township in Bahrain. Situated on the southern island shores of Diyar Al Muharraq, the development will feature two kilometres of waterfront and pristine sandy beaches, and will be among the most publicly accessible in the Kingdom.
As part of the shopping mall development the architects have designed three mayor plazas that give each section of the mall its identity. The design task for Bollinger+Grohmann was to focus on the skylight design and the shading devices.
High energy saving standards demand a smart and economical design solution. The roof therefore was thought of as a lightweight ETFE system that can be tailor made to suite the individual needs of each plaza. Complex energy simulations as well as the structural design and material research was part of the design package.
