The project is taking shape on a former concentration camp site in the Grand-Est region in France. In 2005, with the support of architect Pierre-Louis Faloci, it was transformed into the "European Centre of Deported Resistance Members." As part of its rehabilitation, a workshop and storage facility will be added to the site.
The building features a timber superstructure with transverse portals comprising glulam posts and trusses. These portals are hinged at both the base and the top. The gable frame consists of posts of varying heights, also hinged at the base and top. At the top, the posts are connected to a continuous edge beam and crenellated around the purlins that pass through the gable. The portals are triangulated with a horizontal top rail between the columns. Bracing is ensured by the roof, which acts as a diaphragm in both the transverse and longitudinal directions.
The façade is made of edge-to-edge glass, with tinted, curved, laminated and tempered glass.
