Morocco is planning the development of a new deep-sea port in the town of Tangier located at the Straits of Gibraltar. Part of this development are three container handling terminals as well as a passenger ferry port. The ferry will service customers between Europe and Morocco with an anticipated traffic of 7 million passengers and 700,000 trucks each year.
At the end of 2007 the architectural firm Odile Decq together with Khalid Molato were announced as winners of the competition for the passenger ferry terminal building including the adjacent piers. The architectural design is very striking as a result of its amorphous forms which are highlighted by the sharp-edge glass lines.
