The GSI Gesellschaft für Schwerionenforschung needed a new building to accommodate office workspaces, seminar facilities, and laboratories for 200 scientific employees and guest scientists. This is in preparation for the large-scale project FAIR - Facility for Antiproton and Ion Research. The new 5-story building, with external dimensions of approximately 74m x 11m x 17m, consists of a ground floor and 4 upper floors.

The building structure primarily consists of reinforced concrete construction with linear ceilings, beams, columns, bracing staircase, lift cores, and reinforced concrete wall panels. To create a column-free lecture hall, the structural loads above the room are supported by story-high reinforced concrete wall panels on the first floor. The existing ceiling projections absorb the loads and transfer them to the adjacent ground floor walls. The reinforced concrete ceilings were constructed with lightweight partition walls using stud construction to allow for flexible use. The cantilevered building areas were constructed using storey-high, cantilevered wall panels.
