The extension of the Mariinsky Theatre is surrounded almost entirely by a crystalline, golden skin. The space between building and shell serves as foyer, cafeteria and opening.
The structure is made up of inwardly directed pyramids of triangular plan. The area is structured by light slits. Open and closed elements alternate at even distances. In the closed areas is the support structure, a standardized steel frame construction.
