The development project took place in the Eugène Chanlon municipal park in Palaiseau, on the outskirts of Paris. It involved creating a direct, practicable path through the wooded park, close to the former sandstone quarry that has become a climbing site.
A continuous steel handrail, like an ‘Ariadne's thread’, now links the Guichet station to the science and technology hub of the Paris-Saclay campus and accompanies walkers and students on their way.
The footbridge is a structure measuring 21.6 meters in length and 2 meters in width. Its deck is completed at an elevation of 149.30 NGF (Nivellement Général de la France), with the valley's lowest point at approximately 144.80 NGF, providing a maximum clearance of 4.50 meters beneath the deck. The bridge features steel posts that not only support the prefabricated concrete deck (UHPFRC slabs) but also function as guardrail posts. The guardrail itself consists of a steel tube handrail attached to these posts, complemented by a stainless steel mesh for added safety. The posts are anchored using concrete footings supported by micro piles.
Adjacent to the footbridge, the staircase is 13.80 meters long and 2 meters wide. It connects levels from 149.55 NGF at the base to 155.80 NGF at the top.
