In cooperation with Lund Hagem Arkitekter and Atelier Oslo, Bollinger+Grohmann won the invited competition to refurbish and extend the former American Embassy in Oslo in 2018. The building was designed in the 1950s by the Finnish architect Saarinen and has been listed since 2018.

The building consists mainly of an in-situ concrete structure, the load-bearing concrete facade elements were prefabricated. In addition to a new roof floor, the existing building has been expanded with another basement. During the construction phase, the existing structure was supported by temporary piles so that excavation can take place under the building and the new basement can be built.
