In the South of Luxembourg a residential and business district was developed, located on the site of the former ARBED steel plant. The banking centre providing 1,700 workplaces has been built here with a planned further extension for a total of 3,700 workplaces.
The first completed building complex consists of a 75 m high, curved tower in the shape of a wavy disk with two additional smaller towers. The atrium with a fully glazed roof serves as the centre of the complex. The roof structure of the tower was carried out as a composite slab with exposed steel beams and the concrete ceiling slab. A fire assessment was carried out, which allowed them that the steel-structure could be built without fire protection and still provides the required fire resistance. The roof structure of the atrium was developed as a three-dimensional framework. The design concept of the free geometrical configuration of V-shaped trusses and suspensions rods reminds of a grid dancing on paper clips.
