The attic of a building erected in the Gründerzeit period was expanded to create two new storeys. Due to the functional requirements in the permitted building outline, the newly constructed floors of the attic were folded up to achieve an airy and light impression of the space.
The main load-bearing function throughout the building is achieved by the central masonry walls and additionally through the columns. The second attic level, the apartially cantilevered arcade, is carried by the horizontal beam grid that is connected at the edges and the vertical supports. Steel bracing elements and mounted timber OSB panels resist the horizontal shear forces.
